The Progressive Labour Party has won comfortably in Pembroke Central at each of the past two General Elections.
However, with a higher proportion of whites than any other PLP seat in Pembroke, Constituency 17 is not considered a stronghold, and was one of just two seats targeted by Independents in 2007.
Wayne Perinchief picked up 439 votes to United Bermuda Party candidate Austin Warner's 308, with Independent Harold Darrell trailing behind with 24.
At the previous election, in 2003, Mr. Perinchief beat Leonard Santucci of the UBP by 406 votes to 331.
