Pembroke East is a longtime Progressive Labour Party stronghold

Dame Lois Browne Evans, Nelson Bascome, Ottiwell Simmons and Freddie Wade are just some of the names synonymous with the Progressive Labour Party stronghold now known as Pembroke East.

At the 2007 General Election, Walter Roban of the PLP defeated the United Bermuda Party's Sean Pitcher by 631 votes to 142.

Four years earlier, PLP stalwart Mr. Simmons made his final appearance at the polls, beating Walter Cross of the UBP by an even greater margin, 618 to 127.

One of the oldest communities on the Island, some families have lived in the area on the North Shore for many years although, like so much of Bermuda, Constituency 15 has seen much more movement from its population in recent times.

Gangs such as Parkside and 42nd Crew operate in neighbouring constituencies, but Pembroke East has been caught in the crossfire, most notably when Jah-Lario Samuels-Dill was shot in Glebe Road on October 31.
