Pembroke man fined $1,000 for cannabis possession
A man caught with four twists of cannabis stashed in his underwear was fined after he admitted having the drug.
Maxwell Smith, 34, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing more than five grams of cannabis.
Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess said Police were on patrol on Spanish Point Road, Pembroke on August 14 when they saw Smith standing with a group of men. When Police approached, Smith turned and walked away from the group.
Police followed Smith and, during a brief conversation with the defendant, they noticed a smell of cannabis. A search revealed four white twists containing plant material hidden in the waistband of his underwear.
Lab tests later showed the material to be 5.77 grams of cannabis. Pleading guilty to the charge on Wednesday, Smith said: "I apologise to the court."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith $1,000.
