Premier promotes Island on New York's airwaves
Premier Ewart Brown promoted Bermuda to an estimated several million listeners, when he was interviewed on one of New York's most popular radio shows.
The Dan Taylor Morning Show broadcast from the Fairmont Southampton resort yesterday, with Mr. Taylor declaring he was having a "wonderful time" on the Island.
He chatted with Dr. Brown about the short time it takes to get to Bermuda from the east coast just one hour and 40 minutes in his case.
"We call it a crossword puzzle away," replied the Premier, who went on to wax lyrical about Bermuda's attractions including golf, tennis, scuba diving and restaurants.
"You cannot escape the beauty of the Island, it's just a wonderful place and even when it's so hot there are some wonderful gentle breezes," he commented.
Dr. Brown urged listeners to visit the Island for themselves to experience the upcoming music festival and PGA Grand Slam of Golf. The Bermuda Department of Tourism has partnered with CBS radio station personalities this summer to promote Bermuda to some of the US gateway cities, such as Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York and New Jersey. Some of the other radio stations have sent their hosts to Bermuda too.
In addition to Dan Taylor, whose show is on WCBS, other personalities have included Cadillac Jack of 98.1 WOGL, former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, who did his New York radio show from Bermuda last week, and 1210 AM's "Big Talker" Dom Giordano.
