Prison staff staged a walkout at Westgate Correctional Facility yesterday.

A Government spokeswoman said the action was taken in the morning out of concerns by staff, but that the issue was "resolved" a short time later.

The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing, said: "We can confirm that earlier this morning a meeting was held between facility management and staff members in response to concerns raised by staff.

"The matter discussed was resolved at this meeting and Officers resumed their duties accordingly."

She said the walkout had not affected the security of prisoners. "While there was a short interruption in operations, there was no disruption to security or safety," she added.

Craig Clarke, chairman of the Bermuda Prison Officers Association, was unavailable for comment yesterday.
