Public expresses anger at action
As the bus strike continued yesterdaypeople took to public forums to express their views on the industrial action. Those who commented on The Royal Gazette’s Facebook page claimed the veteran driver, whose firing led to the dispute, was in the wrong. Some also stated that the Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU) shouldn’t “condone this type of behaviour”.Roseann Stapff said: “Can the taxpayers refuse to pay their salary hey if it’s good 4de gander than it’s good 4de goose.”Theresa Tee Roseann said: “Good point! Sounds like a plan.........I know what....tell em wa goin pay em and then don’t!”Re Sam said: “I wished I worked for an organisation which was so united as this... but come on BIU u can’t condone this type of behaviour there has to be some accountability on the part of the driver.”Patricia Lynn Pimentel said: ‘He was wrong, the Union is wrong and the bus drivers are wrong. The saddest thing in all of this is that none of them seem to have the ability to recognise that.“They all seem to think that the only mistake that he made was that he didn’t call first. ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS CALL AND EVERYTHING WOULD HAVE BEEN ALRIGHT...according to them!”Danni Marie Maisonneuve-Adams said: “Unfortunately that is the mentality of some people and of course the Union is behind him so that makes it even worse. If you are out sick you are out sick that is from all jobs not just your daytime one. Call or no call he was wrong.”Roseann Stapff added: “You can’t serve two masters at the same time! Where is the loyalty to the taxpayers?btw.THE BIG KAHUNA!”
