Senator makes Haiti appeal after visit
Government Senator Thaao Dill has appealed for people to give generously towards aid relief in Haiti after returning from a trip to the crisis-struck Caribbean country.
On Wednesday, Sen. Dill told the Upper House of his eye-opening experiences including one about a hospital with a ratio of one member of staff to 37 patients, including amputees and coma victims.
He compared this to most hospitals in the western hemisphere which have a staff to patient ratio of one to two at worst.
The radio presenter, who travelled aboard a plane delivering relief from Bermuda, also said he met inspirational characters, including one Haitian who lost many family members and is now dedicating all his time as an interpreter at the hospital, hoping to be given a tent in return.
"I'm obliged to return here and tell everyone: whatever you can do to support the people of Haiti, you must do it," said Sen. Dill.
