'They were so much in love'

James Lawes: Married in December

The heartbroken wife of Bermuda's latest gun victim was last night being comforted by her family.

Greashena Spence-Lawes had only been married to James Lawes for four months.

The newlyweds met when they were co-workers for the Prestige Beauty Salon. James was a barber and Greashena a hairdresser.

Last night, Greashena's youngest sister Mychel said she was "devastated" by the sudden loss of her husband.

"It is really heartbreaking," she said. "They were so much in love and were really happy. It was like puppy love, they were so into each other.

"They just got married in Jamaica in December and it's only four months now."

Mychel, 16, said: "We are trying to be strong for her and my nephew Nizigh (Greashena's eight-year-old son)."

Mr. Lawes also has a five-year-old son, Adijah, in Jamaica. Mychel said the Spence-Farmer family are in close contact with James's parents, Lauren Frasier and James Lawes, and his two sisters and three brothers on the Caribbean island.

James, 26, had been working in Bermuda since February, 2008.

He and Greashena, 27, had planned to hold a big wedding celebration for family and friends in Bermuda this summer.

Greashena recently opened her own salon, Plush Beauty & Barber Salon.

Mychel described her brother-in-law as "very warm-hearted and respectful".

"He was willing to do anything for anyone and would go out of his way to help people," she said.
