In keeping with their pledge to crack down on lawbreakers, Police have stopped, ticketed and impounded several cars for excessive tint.

The checkpoint was on Parsons Road where officers stopped motorists for the traffic offence.

In addition to cars, bikes that were too loud were also ticketed and some were impounded.

Police press officer Dwayne Caines confirmed yesterday afternoon's Police presence on Parsons Road and said: "It is in keeping with what we consider making our roads safe."

Robin Simmons, another Police press officer said: "They are just enforcing the law as it regards to tint and loud cycles. If they see a car with excessive tint and they stop it, the car gets impounded.

"It has to be impounded to be taken to TCD. If they stop a cycle and it's deemed to be over loud it is impounded on the spot and gets taken to TCD and tested for that."

But Mr. Simmons later said not all the cars were being impounded as Police were giving the owners an option.

"Cars are being stopped for excessive tint. However, they are not all necessarily being impounded on the spot. Some are receiving tickets.

"Some people have also opted to remove the tint and therefore they have received a ticket but they have been allowed to remove the tint."

He said he was unable to say the number of cars stopped, ticketed or impounded by press time.

Asked if Police are providing those whose cars were impounded with transportation, Mr. Simmons said he didn't know.

"I don't believe that many people were being inconvenienced by that."
