Tourism teams up with low-ranking New York TV station

Promotion: New York City, where the Bermuda Department of Tourism has linked up with the WPIX TV station.

Just under 100,000 New York households per day tune into the US television channel which has teamed up with the Department of Tourism for a Bermuda promotion, according to the latest ratings.

WPIX-TV has a 1.3 rating from researchers Nielsen, translating to 96,639 households, making it fifth most popular out of six New York television stations.

Of all televisions in the Tri-State area switched on at any one time, three percent are tuned in to WPIX-TV, the ratings indicate.

The Bermuda Bound Ticket Giveaway is marking the Island's 400th anniversary by giving New Yorkers the chance to win a holiday including free round-trip airfare on JetBlue for two, plus three nights' accommodation.

A weekly winner will be picked at random and announced each Friday on WPIX-TV during May, July and November.

On-air promotions feature footage of St. George's and the Crystal Caves among other sights, while the winner will be announced each Friday during the PIX 11 Morning News. A WPIX crew will also be in Bermuda in June to capture footage of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge.

According to Nielsen, the leading station is ABC, with a rating of 4.1. WPIX is also beaten by CBS (3.0), NBC (2.3) and NYW (1.7), although it is more popular than WOR, which has a rating of 0.8.
