Van crashes onto rocks

A crane was need to haul anAir Care Truck off of the Rocks in Southampton Tuesday afternoon after the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove it through a fence on Middle Road in the morning.

A driver narrowly escaped serious injury after he drove an Air Care van over an embankment, nearly plunging the vehicle into the ocean.

According to Police, a 42-year-old man was driving the van around 2 a.m. yesterday.

The man was travelling on Middle Road, Southampton, near Five Star Island, when he lost control of the vehicle.

The van flew over the embankment and rolled more than 20 feet, stopping on its right side just before reaching the ocean.

The driver was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was released suffering no serious injuries.

The van was extensively damaged.

Traffic was diverted from the area yesterday afternoon as Island Construction removed the wrecked vehicle.

The Royal Gazette contacted Air Care yesterday in connection with this story, but they refused to comment.
