Warwick Academy is celebrating its International Baccalaureate results — with its top two students both heading to university in the UK.

Nineteen students out of 25 who took the full IB diploma passed this year, giving the private school a pass rate of 76 percent compared to last year's 75 percent.

All 48 students in year 13 at the school passed the IB certificate programme.

The two top scoring students at Warwick were Carika Weldon and Erin Vickers, both of whom scored 39 points, nearly all at grades six or seven.

Both gained maximum scores in the extended essay and theory of knowledge course.

Carika is going to Leicester University to study medical biochemistry and Erin is going to Bristol University to study law.

Carika, 18, from Warwick, said she was pleased with her results and delighted to have been awarded the Sir Henry Tucker undergraduate scholarship from the Bank of Bermuda for $30,000 per year.

Erin, from Pembroke, received the Renaissance Re scholarship which will see her pick up $25,000 a year for four years. "I'm really excited," she said.

Headmaster Bob Lennox said: "This was an outstanding year group throughout its school career and, not surprisingly, the results were strong across the board and there were notable individual achievements," he said.

"The most pleasing features of the results this year were the strength in depth, as the average scores have risen, the increase in 'bonus' points, which have risen from 15 points last year to 29 points this year and the fact that our predictions show that just about everyone is achieving at the level they should."

Mr. Lennox added: "Another striking outcome is the number of students now looking to study in the UK to take advantage of the British Government's decision to offer Bermudian students the same fee rates as 'home' students.

"This is arguably one of the best things Britain has done for Bermuda.

"It offers very good and reliable college and university preparation at bargain rates when compared to elsewhere."
