Canadian budget airline WestJet is holding a 72-hour sale which ends tomorrow.

Airfare between Bermuda and Toronto has been lowered as has the cost of flights to destinations around the world.

At the moment, a round-trip ticket between Bermuda and Toronto costs $240 including taxes. Travel must be completed by July 15.

Premier and Tourism Minister Ewart Brown said: "As we have seen in the past, the introduction of competition among carriers into Bermuda creates lower prices, better options and improved opportunities for people from around the world to experience the treasure that is Bermuda.

"We believe that this is just the start of an exciting and new era of travel between our neighbours to the north and Bermuda."

Flights out of Pearson International Airport can accommodate 166 passengers. Planes leave Toronto at 10.20 a.m. and Bermuda at 3 p.m.

Until now Air Canada has had a monopoly on direct flights between Bermuda and Canada.

It is not yet known what minimum revenue guarantee agreement the Bermuda Government has entered into with WestJet. Its flights to the Island are seasonal, beginning May 3.www.westjet.com
