Woman fined for using obscenities

A St. George's woman admitted yelling obscenities at Police but claimed she was trying to break up a fight at the same time.

Mornay Piper was charged with using offensive words in a public place on August 21.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday, Crown prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court Police officers were called to a reported fight on Reid Street where Piper was seen standing.

The officers heard Piper shout, "You're not f*****g talking to me", and asked her to refrain from cursing.

But she continued and said: "Not f*****g now. I don't want to hear from you f*****g foreigner."

As she was arrested, the 23-year-old said: "I got beat up and you're f*****g arresting me."

Asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner yesterday if she had anything to say, Piper said: "I was trying to help. Someone was being beat up by her boyfriend. He put his hands on me.

"When we started getting the upper on him, that's when his friends decided to break it up. When the Police were called to the scene, they called him by his name and told him to go inside.

"That's not what I said at all. I did curse but it was not towards the cop. I felt that he was there to get a pay cheque. Now I know why people don't got to the Police."

Piper was given a $1000 fine to be paid forthwith.
