Jail for man who helped girlfriend smuggle drugs
A man was this afternoon jailed for two years for helping his girlfriend smuggle more than $22,000 worth of cannabis into Bermuda.Jason Fox, 35, a Bermudian-Canadian, was detained with his Bermudian girlfriend Kezia DeSilva, 23, last June when they arrived on a flight from Canada. DeSilva was found to have 447.5 grams of cannabis strapped to her legs underneath her skirt.Fox tried to distance himself from her, but it was later established that he paid for her ticket, knowing she would bring the drugs. His DNA was found inside and outside the packages of drugs.DeSilva was jailed for nine months last year for cannabis possession with intent to supply.Fox had his sentence meted out for the same offence this afternoon by Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves. Fox has a four-year-old son and vowed to be a better father in future.He told the judge: "I should have been a bigger and better man and taken the necessary steps to avoid this dilemma' but I didn't due to lust and love."
