A directory outlining all of the cultural activities on offer in Bermuda is up and running.Frances Marshall of the Performing Arts Centre Project outlined the online, interactive Bermuda Cultural Map at the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s Sustainable Development Conference this week.She said the map would provide locals and visitors with a way to explore the identity and diversity of Bermuda’s cultural landscape.Bermuda’s map is the first time cultural mapping has been used for an entire country.“Imagine a free cultural directory with all the added value of maps, videos, e-mail connectivity, links to social media sites, and more,” she said.The map includes ‘cultural assets’ such as festivals, community organisations, natural heritage and creative cultural industries.Ms Marshall said: “From the outset, the intent was also to build a comprehensive map of cultural assets on an easily updated system through which Bermudians could expand and deepen their knowledge about their Country’s cultural treasures. Each ‘asset’ owner is a co-creator of both the map and a vibrant, living cultural network. Each is a part of the value chain of creativity.”Organisations and companies can add their information to the map and update it throughout the year. Already there is wide variety of information on the map such as information about ‘assets’ such as Wadson’s Farm, the Bermuda Historical Society Museum, Bermuda Day and Masterworks’ Artists-in-the-Garden Series.Over 1,000 assets have been added to the map. The organisation now hopes that people will add videos, social media connections and information about each posting.The Bermuda Cultural Map is under the guidance of Greg Baeker author of ‘Rediscovering the Wealth of Places ‘ and supported by a staff of volunteers.
