Island Construction boss: Company not the same after death of Timmy Pedro
A construction company is “just not the same” without popular Timmy Pedro, who was killed in a road crash last week.Stephen Moniz, one of the bosses at Island Construction, has spoken out about how much workers are missing “the jokes and chat” from Mr Pedro.Father-of-one Mr Pedro, 49, was killed when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a tree on Middle Road, near the junction with Parsons Lane, in Devonshire. The accident happened just before 6pm on Thursday, outside Island Construction and just around the corner from Mr Pedro’s home. Some of the company’s workers were leaving work at the time of the accident and helped to redirect traffic from the scene without realising Mr Pedro was involved.Mr Pedro had worked as a dispatcher of the company’s container trucks for several years. Mr Moniz said the company had received lots of phone calls from customers offering their condolences. He said: “Everyone is still in disbelief. We are really missing him. “He was a role model employee and things definitely aren’t the same. There was never a dull moment at work with him around.” Mr Pedro of Sousa Estate Road, Devonshire, leaves behind wife Theresa, who he had been married to for 20 years, and 18-year-old daughter Laurie. Mr Moniz grew up with Mr Pedro in Somerset and also went away with him on ‘boy’s vacations’ about twice a year.He said: “He was a great father, a great husband and a great friend, one couldn’t have asked for a better friend. He would go out of his way to do anything for anyone at any time.”Mr Pedro’s funeral will be held at St John’s Church, St John’s Road in Pembroke tomorrow at 2pm. Friends and family will then leave Albouy’s Point for a sea burial. This is said to be a fitting tribute to the keen fisherman who loved life on the water. Anyone who knew Mr Pedro is welcome. Island Construction will close at lunchtime on Thursday so that employees can attend the funeral.Police are continuing to appeal to people who may have seen the single-vehicle accident or have any information to contact Pc Steven Darrell on 299-4388.
