BPSU members to march on Cabinet
Civil servants are to march to Cabinet Office next Tuesday to show they won't accept redundancies or wage cuts — and urge Ministers to consider a pay cut.Bermuda Public Services Union today confirmed they'll be protesting to insist Government guarantees no jobs will go and nobody's pay will be reduced if it accepts a 1.25 pay increase or wage freeze. The demonstration will also call on Government to take all reasonable steps to advocate a price freeze for all essential products and services, and consider a pay cut to all ministerial salaries. It follows a meeting called by BPSU president Kevin Grant, who told The Royal Gazette last night: “We know things are bad but my members feel that they are bending over backwards. They want to know why they are the ones who always have to make a sacrifice.”A flyer put out by the BPSU states: “As mandated by Government workers at the general membership meeting, all Government workers (civil servants) are encouraged to join us and march to Cabinet Office on Tuesday, April 26, at 10am.”Protesters will meet at BPSU headquarters at 9.30am.
