Amongst the kite fliers was nine-year-old Qira Norfleet, a visitor from Baltimore, who was keen to get a Tinkerbell fairy kite into the sky.
Hundreds of people took to Horseshoe Bay yesterday, both to fly kites and to take advantage of the sunny weather. The beach was packed with people throughout the day and cars were seen parked on both sides of South Road near the popular south shore destination.Eric Walton said he spent most of the morning trying to teach his son how to fly a kite a task made more difficult by the crowds.“The first time we almost got it up, and when it came down it almost beaned a lady in her head,” he said. “Once they’re up, it’s fine, but getting them up there can be a bit of a health hazard.“The atmosphere is great, but it’s crazy how many people are everywhere.”Young United Bermuda, a division of the United Bermuda Party, hosted their annual Kite Festival at the beach, with live music, kite contests and tug-o-war.Above the beach on South Road, crowds gathered at viewing areas, watching both homemade and store-bought kites hover in the air.
