Tanker diverts to Island

The Danish tanker ship Maersk Meridian will approach St George’s this morning after diverting to the Island for a medical emergency.According to Harbour Radio, the ship, carrying liquified natural gas from Milford Haven in the UK to Sabine Pass, Texas, turned towards Bermuda after a 52-year-old Second Engineer reported pain.“For the last two days the crewman, a Danish national, was reportedly suffering abdominal pains, so they have decided to turn to the Island,” said a Harbour Radio spokesman.The Maersk Meridian is expected to come near St George’s at around 10am so that the crew member can be taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
