Minors lauds Island’s talented women
Women of Bermuda are being encouraged to “have the willingness and desire to imagine, to experiment and to dream.”Business Development and Tourism Minister Patrice Minors has sung the praises of the Island’s “incredible female talent” while encouraging others to follow their “creativity and innovation.”Ms Minors hosted a reception at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSOA) last night as the Island marked World Intellectual Property Day. The purpose of the day is to celebrate the invaluable contributions made by innovators and creators.As this year’s global theme is ‘Designing the Future,’ Ms Minors said it was fitting to showcase the work of women who had made significant contributions through architecture, literacy works and the visual arts. Ms Minors said the importance of the World Intellectual Day could not be understated as the work of these women had “helped to shape our world.”The BSOA showcase included work by Lisa Quinn, Sharon Wilson, Zuedi Hinds, Jill Amos Raine, Ann Spurling, Isabelle Ramsay, Lucinda Spurling, Ronnie Chameau, Betty-Ann Trott, Joan Forbes, Barbara Finsness, April Branco, Joann Ball- Burgess, Susie Lowe, Shelly Hamill, Nicky Gurret, Meredith Andrews, Florenz Maxwell, Joy Barnum and the late Bylee Lang.Their work was on show in addition to BSOA’s seven featured artists; Dawn Fubler, Barbara Dillas, Vivienne Kipps, Erma Nisbett, Toni Spring, Wynne Colley and Edith Zivi.
