Celebrating the Royal wedding
Dozens of residents gathered at venues across the Island to watch the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton unfold this morning.In Warwick, Lucy Richardson's home on South Shore Road was decked out with 36ft of bunting, and nine large UK flags. A life sized mannequin named ‘Camilla', wearing a mask of Queen Elizabeth, was also erected to wave at passersby.Mrs Richardson gathered before 7am with family and friends to watch the spectacle on the BBC.“I did this because there is so much that is going wrong with the world and trouble and problems, this is just a chance for people to enjoy a happy day, to come together and celebrate”.More than three dozen people turned for other early morning festivities at two Hamilton restaurants, both offering breakfast and mimosas.At the Robin Hood Pub and Restaurant, spectators Anna Forbes, 25, and Abi Kempe,24, marvelled at Miss Middleton's long sleeved ivory gown, designed by Sarah Burton.Ms Kempe said the most exciting part was watching Miss Middleton step out of the car on the war to Westminster Abbey. She said the Duchess of Cambridge's dress simple and elegant; and Ms Forbes added: “I really like the lace detail.”Three friends Amanda Dale, Louise Park and Lynsey Sutcliffe, from England, wore red, white and blue clothing to mark the occasion.Cafe 4 director Emilio Barbierri who came up with the idea for the event, said: “I wanted to be part of the celebration. It's a big deal, it's like the Olympics. People were here from 6.30am.”At 3pm today another event will be taking place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, advertised as “for Royal Wedding enthusiasts”- in aid of Project Action.The Bermuda Reception High Tea, will feature a best hat and best dressed awards, as well as customised gifts and a silent auction for royal goodies.Governor Sir Richard Gozney will also host an event in honour of the Royal Wedding this evening.
