‘Rich person, poor person’ charity dinner to promote environmental awareness

A charity dinner promoting environmental awareness is to be hosted by the Roman Catholic Church. The ‘Rich Person Poor Person Dinner’ is a lottery event. Guests will receive either a ‘rich’ or a ‘poor’ meal although both will get the same dessert.“The dinner plans to raise awareness about our environment locally and abroad, through slide shows, videos and talks,” said committee chairwoman Joanne Wohlmuth.“Our aim is not only to make reference to reverence for the beauty of the earth, but also to spot how sustainable development benefits poor nations, and how the ecological problem is intimately linked to justice for the poor.”The dinner will raise funds for the Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce and Greenrock, who will address guests on “their mission of trying to create a better Bermuda by environmental activism”.“We want to stimulate people in terms of activism and social justice,” Mrs Wohlmuth said. The event is to be held on Friday at St Theresa’s Hall on Laffan Street in Hamilton at 7pm.Tickets are available for $65 through orcc[AT]northrock.bm.
