Rotary donates $50,000+ to charity
The organisers of a controversial magic show donated more than $50,000 raised by the event to charity yesterday.More than 6,000 people attended The Magic of Rick Thomas at the Fairmont Southampton Princess earlier this year.Six out of 11 shows reportedly sold out. The show drew criticism from animal rights groups for its use of a white tiger.Sandys Rotary Club President JP Horst said that the event helped to educate the public about tiger conservation and raised money for charity.Mr Horst yesterday presented $52,000 raised by the event to several charities including the Coalition for the Protection of Children, the Salvation Army, The Family Centre, the Sunshine League, the Reading Clinic and the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.PolioPlus, the official charity of Rotary International, was another recipient.
