A coalition of community groups will come together on Saturday to hold a fun day aimed at helping young people.Youth Exploring Self YES will offer skateboarding, fun football and even lessons in hands-on scuba diving in a small tank at the event at Whitney Institute Middle School, on Middle Road, Smith’s.There will also be music and dance, along with some aspects of heritage at the event, which lasts from 2pm to 9pm.“This adventure is geared for the whole family, but especially for our youth,” said Glenn Fubler of Imagine Bermuda, which is coordinating the event. The YES Day is also being held in conjunction with the Elliott School PTA’s White Elephant Day which is running from 10am until 4pm, within a half mile, at their school field on Hermitage Road, Devonshire.Mr Fubler said: “Under the theme ‘One Goal, “One Community’, the YES Day is part of an initiative that has selected the zone from Devonshire East through Hamilton East to develop the links among groups that have some history of serving positive roles in the Island.“The goal is to strengthen the fabric of our society. It is worth noting that the meetings to develop and design this YES Day has afforded representatives to develop a synergy that has benefited them already.“For instance, the reps from Wolves Football Club have developed links with Dr Ian Walker, director of BMAZ, who happens to live on Hermitage Road not far from the Wolves training ground at Elliott.“With many games and fun, we are reminded that in life we all need recreation; the root of that word being ‘rebirth or renaissance’ an appropriate consideration for our Island at a crossroads,” he said.“While we have been experiencing some significant challenges as a society, we believe that saying YES to the best in all of us, YES to the best of our community, means YES to a better Bermuda,” Mr Fubler said.Organisations supporting the event include the Bermuda Aquarium, area churches, sports clubs, Chewstick and the Department of Youth And Sport.
