Bermuda in bloom at Chelsea Flower Show
Staff from the Department of Parks will represent Bermuda this month at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.The Parks Department, together with the Department of Tourism and London’s Indoor Garden Design will produce an exhibit called ‘A Bermuda Honeymoon Garden’ for this year’s show.The annual event, which takes place from May 24 to May 28, is expected to draw more than 150,000.A spokesman for the Parks Department said the Bermuda display would feature a limestone moon gate and a pathway that leads to a pink sand beach.“The garden typifies all that is best of Bermuda’s vibrancy and multi-hued landscapes, which includes such local flora as buttonwood, various palm trees, bird of paradise, the fragrant Bermuda Easter lily, tea roses, ornamental shrubs and the Bermuda onion,” the spokesman said.“The Garden Club of Bermuda has made a generous donation in support of this project, and the Bermuda Rose Society kindly donated six Bermuda Roses towards this display.”Public Works Minister Derrick Burgess said the display will not only show off Bermuda’s beauty and culture, but possible draw potential visitors to the Island.“This exhibit will hopefully pique visitors’ interests in coming to Bermuda for a vacation, or even to get married under a moon gate,” Mr Burgess said.“It is my hope, and I am confident knowing the dedication of the Parks staff, that we will win a gold medal for our exhibit.”Useful website: www.gov.bm.
