Hillary Clinton sends Island a message for Bermuda Day
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sent Bermuda her support on Bermuda Day.In a message released via US Consul Grace Shelton, Mrs Clinton wrote to Island residents: “On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Bermuda as you celebrate Bermuda Day this May 24. This day is an opportunity to honour your rich culture and history.”She added: “The United States and Bermuda are both neighbours and friends, but our partnership is enlivened by the mutual respect, interest, and ties of friendship and kinship our people share.“Americans have a long history of appreciation for our close neighbour based on our common ancestry, values and ideals, and this relationship is strengthened every day.“As you celebrate with family and friends, whether at the Heritage Day Parade or Marathon Derby, know that the United States is committed to this important relationship and to the future of all Bermudians.”Mrs Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, celebrated his 63rd birthday with a vacation on the Island in 2009.They also visited Bermuda 30 years before that, with their daughter Chelsea said to have been conceived during their stay at Horizons in Paget.
