Rain at last!
Bermuda woke today to the welcome sound of rain, following an exceptionally dry start to the summer. With the Island’s average precipitation down by nearly half so far this year, the wet days promised by an incoming low pressure system and cold front will be gladly received.Until this morning, Bermuda was down 10in on the average, with 12.6in rain recorded so far in 2011, instead of the expected 22.9in. Just 0.29in had fallen in June, and 0.63in was recorded for the last 30 days. The string of below-average months has parched gardens, fields and domestic water supplies. For now, weather is expected to be “unsettled” through Thursday morning, as the body of low pressure northwest of Bermuda merges with a cold front moving in from the US East Coast.More showers are expected for tonight, with a possibility of thunderstorms, with sporadic rain expected for the next few days. The Bermuda Weather Service predicts a return of sunny weather by Friday.Useful web link: www.weather.bm
