Shadow Tourism Minister claims Govt “putting ego and pride” before Country

Tourism Shadow Minister Patricia Gordon-Pamplin has accused Government of “putting ego and pride” before what’s best for the Country.Ms Gordon-Pamplin has today questioned on the One Bermuda Alliance website why there hadn’t been a Tourism Minister in the PLP Government with tourism management experience. It comes the day after entertainer Tony Brannon, who has been involved in tourism all his life, said he was fired from the Bermuda Tourism Board following conflicts with Tourism Minister Patrice Minors. A letter to him from Minister Minors said his input was not as “constructive” as she had envisioned. Mr Brannon believes politics continue to strangle the industry.Ms Gordon-Pamplin said today: “It is truly sad that the Government would apparently put ego and pride over the utilisation of willing expertise.“There has not been one Tourism Minister in the PLP Government with tourism management experience, yet they scoff at the idea of having those who know what they are doing to drive the industry.“I thought it was a move in the right direction to include the likes of Tony Brannon on the Tourism Board, as his background lends itself to effective input. How many hoteliers are on the tourism board?”
