There's a gorilla in our midst ....

Customs probably aren’t going to like this very much, but a group of visiting gorilla doctors from the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP), here to give a lecture for the Bermuda Zoological Society, might have brought along a 6ft tall mountain gorilla.A short recording of the gorilla stealing a golf cart from the Tucker’s Point Club, where MGVP members are staying, has been posted on the video website vimeo.com - http://vimeo.com/25748642.In the film, the gorilla rode up to the door of the Tucker’s Point Club, then brazenly shook hands with a hotel doorman, before entering. He came dressed in black fur, but no tie, so it was unclear whether he was admitted to the hotel’s upscale dining room. He was spotted again, waving to passers by at the Crow Lane Roundabout with local celebrity Johnny Barnes. Mr Barnes appeared unfazed by the experience. The gorilla was later seen sunning himself on the beach, with Dr Michael Cranfield, executive director of MGVP, a charity that provides veterinary assistance to mountain gorillas in East Africa. The video was shot by MGVP cinematographer, editor and designer, Roy Heisler. Anonymous sources close to the scene allege that the gorilla was a shameless publicity stunt, and the gorilla was actually MGVP veterinarian and board member, Kim Hammond, in a gorilla suit.Dr Cranfield will be giving a lecture tonight about the work of MGVP at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) at 7pm. Tickets are $20 and available at BZS or by telephoning 299-2326 or at www.bdatix.bm.See the video entitled ‘Sand Gorilla’ is at http://vimeo.com/25748642 . There are also several other shorts made by Mr Heisler on Vimeo.
