A ticket to ride to cost twice as much

Photo by Mark TatemTwice as much: The pink route ferry schedule is being restored, but the cost of a single trip is to rise from $2.50 to $5.

The ferry service’s Pink Route has been restored, but its fares are set to double after this month.Transport Minister Terry Lister told the House of Assembly that bringing back weekend and public holiday service to the route would cost Government $1.03 million a year, versus $747,000 for the Monday to Friday service.“Effective August 1, the single fare will be increased from $2.50 per trip to $5 per trip to offset these operating costs,” Mr Lister said. The route runs between Hamilton, Paget and Warwick, serving about 109,000 passengers a year. The price hike will also apply to multiday and other passes. This route will have its own “special fare media” introduced for the increase. Bus and ferry tokens, tickets and passes for other routes will not be accepted, but Pink Route fare media will be accepted on all other ferry routes.
