Teenager not guilty of aggravated burglary and possessing a gun

Accused robber Leo Burgess was this afternoon found not guilty of aggravated burglary and possessing a firearm while underage.Mr Burgess, 17, was found not guilty by a majority verdict of nine to three on both counts. The allegations were in connection to an incident on December 6 last year, in which former jeweller Gregory Wilson was accosted in his Southampton home by four men, two wielding firearms. The men escaped with an estimated $65,000 of jewellery, much of which the victim had made, and a sum of cash. None of the items have been recovered. The Crown had alleged that Mr Burgess, 17, was the ringleader of the group, ordering the others around. But Mr Burgess said he was at home sick, watching DVDs with his mother when the incident took place, and his defence attorney Shade Subair said he was the victim of a shoddy police investigation.
