Bermuda Under-17s select squad
Bermuda Under-17s have named their squad for their upcoming football World Cup qualifiers in Bahamas. The Islanders will have to top a group that includes Antigua and Barbuda and hosts Bahamas to advance to the next round.Youth director Devarr Boyles and assistant coach Aaron Denkins will take charge of the squad of 18 players, which leaves the Island this weekend.Boyles said: “These games will allow us to gauge our emerging girls programme here in Bermuda. The girls are very excited to compete in this tournament.“Two of the girls will provide international experience, most recently competing in the Dominican Republic during the Olympic qualifiers in July of last month.“Meanwhile, three other members have recently returned from the Super Y League experience played earlier this summer in Boston, Massachusetts and Valencia, Spain respectively. This means we will be counting on them with their leadership and share their knowledge with their team-mates.”When the tournament ends a number of the players will be flying to the US for the Prep School Tour.“Almost one third of the squad (five of these squad members) will not return to Bermuda after the tournament as they will begin their first year in Prep School in the state of Massachusetts and Florida,” added Boyles.Bermuda will play their first match against Antigua and Barbuda on Tuesday, August 16 and their second and final match against host country Bahamas on Thursday, August 18.The two games will kick-off 7 pm Bermuda time.Bermuda's Under-17 squad:Jaeda SmithPrecious SmithSierra FisherTajam'es BranchPrecious CooperTai SampsonK'Shela Burch WaldronTiara SmithTeara ThomasSharri WeldonJasmine SpenceNiambi RussellSarai PaulKali LespereJasmine SimonsNatasha TrottRayni MayburyKuenna DillDevarr Boyles – Head coachAaron Denkins – Assistant coachCraig Brown – PhysioShequita Parson – Head of Delegation
