PTB bus timetable changes closer to resolution after meeting

Transportation Minister Terry Lister yesterday met with Union leader Chris Furbert over potential changes to the bus timetable.A spokesman for the Transportation Department described the meeting as “amicable,” saying the two parties are now closer to a resolution on a new schedule.Earlier this week, Mr Lister said the meeting was “terribly overdue.”While the timetable should be updated every four years, the current schedule has not been revamped since 1998.The two parties agreed to enter arbitration about the issue in May, but Mr Furbert pulled out of the process and talks have continued. The primary dispute reportedly revolves around the loss of weekends off for bus drivers on West End routes, who as a result would have two to four weekends off per year.Under the existing schedule, the drivers have 12 to 16 weekends off.Mr Lister told the media earlier this week that he was eager for the dispute to be resolved, saying: “We are determined the new bus schedule will be done soon, we are really determined to get this done.”
