Capital G gives $25,000 to families
Fifty needy families are to receive a total of $25,000 in food vouchers, as Capital G Bank celebrated its ten year anniversary yesterday with a donation to the Family Centre.“It’s a huge donation, without a doubt,” said Family Centre director Martha Dismont, adding the charity has seen a rise in families struggling to meet everyday expenses.“As unemployment rises, so does the need to have support. I think the number of those below the poverty line has clearly grown, and we also see normal families income simply cannot meet their costs,” she said.“The thing we forget in Bermuda is that when an individual loses his or her job, they tend to be supported by family members. So it places stress on others as well.”The 50 food vouchers, each worth $500, will be distributed among families identified by the Centre as most at risk.Capital G spokeswoman Keisha Webb-Gibbs said the bank has supported the Family Centre throughout its past decade in business. She said: “It’s challenging for some families to balance rent, utilities, day care and food.“We monitor the news and listen to what different charities have to say about peoples’ needs. With this donation of food vouchers, we wanted to help by giving people something tangible.”The voucher donation was made in partnership with Lindos supermarkets.Capital G CEO Ian Truran said: “We couldn’t think of a better way to give back to our community and those who need it most at this time.”The bank’s ten-year anniversary will be celebrated today with “in-bank festivities” from 12pm to 2pm, open to the public, which include refreshments and entertainment.
