Careers fair to cater to jobless adults
A Careers Fair geared toward younger workers will this year include advice for jobless and transitioning adults, Economy Minister Kim Wilson this afternoon announced.Calling for public and private entities to address economic challenges in unison, Senator Wilson said the fair next week in Bermuda College will have about 80 exhibitors showcasing career opportunities to young Bermudians.Event Chairman Ralph Richardson said the fair, now in its seventh year, will also see a new feature catering to jobless adults.“We will have an extended period of the fair for those in transition or looking for jobs,” Mr Richardson said, cautioning that the two-day event would be geared toward advice rather than providing jobs.It will provide “sound career advice to adults, whether unemployed, seeking to upgrade, or looking to become and entrepreneur”, he said. The Careers Fair runs from 10am to 3pm on October 13 and 14 at the Bermuda College. It will feature music, entertainment and a fashion show along with a hall of corporations and organisations seeking to help students “make the connection between learning and earning”, Sen Wilson said.Saying Bermuda’s economy “will return to the heights experienced before the economic challenge”, she said the fair was “another step in readying Bermudians to take their place in the work force”.According to organisers, last year’s fair was attended by 2,500 students and young people.
