‘Very special kid’ killed in road crash
A young man known for his smile and affectionate personality died after a road collision in the early hours of Saturday.Shayne Adderley, 21, was riding home to Dockyard when his motorcycle collided with a taxi on Middle Road, Southampton, around 1.45am.His grieving father, Harry Adderley, and sisters Larrita Adderley-Taylor and Cherrie Adderley led the tributes to him yesterday.“He was always smiling, always laughing and he was a loving type of person,” said Mr Adderley Sr, 60, from St David’s.“When he and I got together we’d hug and kiss each other and go for walks and go for talks. He listened a lot to me and whenever anything got on his nerves he would give me a call and I would comfort him a lot.”Mr Adderley lived with friends in Dockyard, and worked at the Dockyard Glassworks. He was the son of Mr Adderley Sr and Shianne Minks, and spent much of his early life in St George’s.His father said: “He would do anything for anybody; that’s the way he was, and I brought him up to respect the elders. What I loved about him was he would speak his mind and when he did, he would speak calmly and tell you exactly how he felt in a nice way. I miss him a lot.”Mr Adderley was taken to hospital following the collision and treated in the intensive care unit, but pronounced dead at 6.15pm on Saturday. His sister Larrita Adderley-Taylor, 29, said: “Shayne was a very special kid. Every time he got on the bus when he was a young boy he would give the driver a hug.“He was my little brother and every time I saw him he would give me a wet kiss on my cheek and tell me he loved me.”She added: “Shayne was a people’s person. He was always smiling. I can’t believe it and it just hurts.”Mr Adderley’s other sister, Cherrie Adderley, 24, said: “He was outgoing and loving and always giving us kisses. I will remember him for his smile and how he liked to goof around. He was always giving wet slobbery kisses.”Gregory Trott, 20, is Mr Adderley’s cousin, and they shared a house together in Dockyard with some other young men who nicknamed themselves the Gucci Squad and nicknamed Mr Adderley “Lippy”.“We were real close. We just liked to act crazy. We weren’t a gang, we just used to act crazy with each other and have a good time,” said Mr Trott. “We would go to the club and shout ‘Gucci Squad’ and we formed a dance group and came up with crazy dances.”Ashley Bassett, a close friend of the victim, said: “He loved dancing and chilling with his friends and family. He smiled every day and he was the only person I could go to and talk about anything, I hate the fact that he is gone but I will never forget him. He will always be in my heart no matter what.”Mr Adderley’s death was the fifth on Bermuda’s roads so far this year.Any witnesses should contact Pc Latoyia Brunson on 295-0011.
