Trucker found guilty of threatening Health Minister
Trucker Richard Foggo was given a six-month conditional discharge this afternoon for using threatening behaviour towards Health Minister Zane DeSilva.Magistrate Juan Wolffe found Foggo not guilty of using threatening words towards the Minister.Mr DeSilva had previously told the court that Foggo approached him outside the Cabinet Building on August 2 and threatened his life in a profanity-laced tirade.Foggo admitted approaching Mr DeSilva, but told the court that he maintained his calm throughout the encounter, only raising a finger to Mr DeSilva after he turned towards him threateningly.Yesterday Mr Wolffe said he believed that Foggo approached Mr DeSilva for official business but that the conversation deteriorated into a “bitter tirade” with Foggo following the Minister into and out of the Cabinet Office, behaving threateningly. However he said the alleged verbal threats towards Mr DeSilva were ambiguous or possibly misheard.Noting Foggo’s otherwise clean record, Mr Wolffe gave the trucker a conditional discharge, saying: “I’m not saying don’t pursue the issue, but don’t pursue the issue in the way you did August 2.”
