Pro footballer David Bascome publishes new children’s book

Minister of Education Dame Jennifer Smith joined Lt Col David Burch and David Bascome, MBE, in the launch of Mr Bascome?s new children?s book ?Don?t Miss The Bus?. Minister Smith was presented with a copy of Mr Bascome?s book, which is based on his Hope 4 Life programme. A former Government Minister, Lt Col Burch, was an ardent supporter of the Hope 4 Life programme. Copies of the book will be made available to the Ministry of Education. The first in a series of motivational children’s books by footballer David Bascome has been launched.The author presented a copy of ‘Don’t Miss the Bus!’ to Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith. The Minister hopes to distribute copies of the book throughout the Island’s primary schools.“I’ve been speaking to the young people in Bermuda for years, and the substance of this book came out of one of my motivational talks,” Mr Bascome said. “That story of the book and its title come from the idea that even if you get there late, it’s getting there that’s important.”The series is based on Mr Bascome’s youth-directed Hope 4 Life Foundation, designed to teach leadership and decision-making skills to young people.“Hope 4 Life’s focus is prevention,” Dame Jennifer said. “The Hope 4 Life programme provides young people with positive choices, information and the skills to live a drug- and violence-free life. Since its inception, Mr Bascome and his team have visited virtually every school public and private the Corrections facilities and events, sharing his positive message. The Ministry wholeheartedly supports his efforts as he continues his advocacy for Bermuda’s children.”The series of books, which Mr Bascome said has been available through booksellers Barnes and Noble in the US, will be launched in local stores on December 1.
