The family of promising young cricketer Landro Minors last night spoke of their devastation at the 27-year-old’s death on the roads.Mr Minors was described by his 21-year-old brother Leron as a proud St David’s Islander.“He was a very compassionate young person. He wasn’t always perfect, but he really loved his family and took care of them. And anybody who needed help, any of his friends, he’d help if they needed him. He was very well-liked. St David’s is not going to be the same.”His brother added: “He was just turning his life around when this happened.”Mr Minors, who lived with his family, was killed when his motorcycle struck a wall near the junction of Clarendon Road with Middle Road in Smith’s, at about 9.45pm on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital half an hour later.“I got to the hospital and saw a lot of people standing around outside,” his brother said. “As someone who works as a mortician, I knew right away that was nothing good.”The son of Tanya Minors and Landro Bascome, Landro McCoy Minors attended St David’s Primary, followed by Clearwater Middle School and the Berkeley Institute.“He was a great cricket player, a very good footballer, and an excellent golfer too,” Leron Outerbridge recalled. “We loved eating lobster together and going out on the boat fishing.”Sports Minister Glenn Blakeney expressed shock at the news when Bermuda’s seventh road fatality of the year was named yesterday by police.“I can say that he was a very well-rounded individual who was a credit to the sport of cricket,” he said. “I didn’t know him well as a person, but as a player he was worthy of confidence, not just as part of his local team, but possibly going on to be part of the nucleus of the national team. This is very untimely and sad news, and my heart goes out to his family. I hope that they are comforted during their bereavement.”Police continue to investigate the accident, and have asked for witnesses to contact Pc Tyrone Fox at 247-1788.
