Careers Expo to showcase hospitality opportunities

A Hospitality Career Expo aims to show the Island’s residents that there’s more to the industry than they think.The Bermuda Hospitality Institute is inviting people of all ages to find out about the vast array of job opportunities available in the tourism business.The second annual event on Saturday, December 17, will showcase the entire hospitality industry from retail and restaurant jobs to the behind-the-scenes managerial positions that ensure hotels run smoothly.The event will offer plenty of networking opportunities and will also be the ideal chance to pick up some career information and guidance. Workshops will be held throughout the event and more than 20 businesses will be featured.There will even be chef demonstrations and a hands-on children’s programme for those aged eight to 13 to preview the BHI’s Hospitality Skills = Life Skills programme that will start next year.The event takes place from 9am to 2pm at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel and the first 200 people to register get a complimentary breakfast and lunch.Karla Lacey, CEO of the Bermuda Hospitality Institute, said: “Building upon last year’s success, the BHI will be expanding their programme for the 2011 Expo to encompass more age groups and different sectors of the industry.“While some of the programme formats will be familiar to last year’s attendees, there will be all new panel discussions, breakout sessions, topics and, most exciting of all, a separate programme just for children ages eight to 13.”If you are interested in attending the Hospitality Career Expo, you must register in advance at www.bhi.bmFor further information about the event call 295-5049.
