Senator Diallo Rabain chosen to contest Hamilton South for PLP
Senator Diallo Rabain was this afternoon unveiled as the ruling party's candidate for Hamilton South, constituency 7. Mr Rabain, who was appointed as a Senator last month, will be facing the One Bermuda Alliance's Sylvan Richards at the polls.He was introduced by Premier Paula Cox as a member of “the new generation stepping up to the plate to take part in the political life of our country.”“Senator Rabain has an excellent record of professional and community service and I'm delighted that he will be carrying the banner for the PLP in the next general election,” Ms Cox said.“Our candidates understand that public service is an honour and is a serious commitment.”Senator Rabain said that he was born and raised in Hamilton South. “I know what the area was like when I was growing up, I know what it is now and I know what it can be,” he said.He added that his appointment to the Senate has been “rewarding and educational” and that he would be a “voice of reason and progress for all my fellow Bermudians.”Community service is important, “not for personal accolades but because it's the right thing to do.“Hard work, community service and spending time genuinely listening to the people are the values I intend to bring to this candidacy. I look forward to being a true representative of the people of constituency 7 and an advocate for what is right and just for our island home.”In response to a question, he said he did not see his youth as an impediment but that he had been serving the community for over ten years.Ms Cox noted that Sen Rabain to chair the PLP's most recent annual delegate's conference.“The annual delegates' conference isn't for the faint hearted,” she said. “The fact that the peers of the PLP elected him is quite a testament to who he is.”
