Motorists urged to drive with care over Christmas

Police and anti-drink driving group CADA are calling for the public to celebrate the holiday season but carefully. In a joint press conference this afternoon, Chief Inspector Hashim Estwick and CADA executive director Gillian Freelove-Jones warned the public against drinking and driving.Mrs Freelove-Jones said that the number of traffic collisions have been on decline but December is historically one of the more dangerous months on the road due to the festive season.“We know that alcohol and/or drugs play a role in the vast majority of accidents on Bermuda’s roads,” she said. “Together, we must remain focused, committed and continue to take responsibility to eliminate drinking and driving.“We believe this will go a long way towards eradicating traffic deaths on our roads.”Police are promising increased visibility for the holidays, and are also asking the public to remain cautious and alert for criminals. The public was reminded to lock windows and doors in unattended homes and vehicles.
