Bermuda’s own Nick Christopher has taken on a new role in the inaugural production of Katori Hall’s ‘Hurt Village’ in New York.Mr Christopher, son of Hamilton Town Crier Ed Christopher, is featured in the drama, which had its world premier on Tuesday.Patricia McGregor will direct the gritty drama about life and change in a Memphis housing project, by the author of Broadway’s ‘The Mountaintop’.Mr Christopher, who previously played Tom Collins in the award-winning Broadway musical ‘Rent,’ will be joined by Tony Award winner Yonya Pinkins, Ron Cephas Jones and Saycon Sengbloh.An official plot description reads: “It’s the end of a long summer in Hurt Village, a housing project in Memphis, Tennessee. A government Hope Grant means relocation for many of the project’s residents, including Cookie, a 13-year-old aspiring rapper, along with her mother Crank and great-grandmother Big Mama.“As the family prepares to move, Cookie’s father Buggy unexpectedly returns from a tour of duty in Iraq. Ravaged by the war, Buggy struggles to find a position in his disintegrating community, along with a place in his daughter’s wounded heart.”‘Hurt Village’ is scheduled to run until March 18 at The Romulus Linney Courthouse Theatre in the Signature Centre in New York.Useful website: www.signaturetheatre.org.
