British Airways will be the first airline servicing Bermuda to use software that provides passengers with paperless boarding passes. The announcement was made yesterday by Transport Minister Derrick Burgess.Mr Burgess said the mobile pass enables passengers to download their boarding pass on their cellphones. While the technology was incorporated by way of a computer upgrade several years ago on Government systems, until now none of the airlines serving Bermuda used the system that’s been in place at international airports for some time.Joined by BA’s Bermuda manager Marianne Wilcox to launch the initiative, Mr Burgess said the paperless passes will enable BA passengers, without checked baggage, to bypass the check-in queues and proceed directly to the lounge.“This is yet another way of improving the airport experience for our travellers. It also helps our sustainable development efforts just a little more by eliminating yet more paper from our lives,” he said.He also thanked British Airways for making travel a little less stressful.
