Driver in ICU after car hits pole

Two 23-year-old driver was last night in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after being injured on Saturday when four-wheel ATV crashed into a utility pole in Pembroke.According to a police spokesman, at around 5pm police and other first responders attended the scene of the collision on North Shore Road near the junction with Blackwatch pass.“The driver and passenger, a Pembroke man and a Warwick man respectively, were injured,” the spokesman said. “Both victims were taken to King Edward VII Memorial for treatment.”As of last check, the Pembroke man remained in the Intensive Care Unit, while the Warwick man was on a general ward.The collision was the second recorded by the police that day. About 12 hours earlier officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on St David’s Road, near the junction with Emily’s Bay Lane, St David’s.“It appears that a car was travelling along St David’s Road when it collided with a sidewalk and overturned,” the spokesman said. “The car was damaged however the driver, a 36-year-old St George’s woman, was not injured.”And in another incident, a senior was injured on Friday after a car collided with a traffic island at the junction of Church Street and Burnaby Street.While the vehicle was damaged, the driver, a 78-year-old Sandys parish woman reportedly suffered only minor injuries.Inquiries into all three incidents are underway.
