Police appeal for witnesses after man injured in shooting

A man was injured in a shooting incident this morning.A Police spokesman said: "Around 1am on Wednesday, February 29, police responded to reports of gunshots in the North Shore Road, Bandroom Lane Pembroke area."A 23-year-old man has been shot and injured as a result; however his injuries do not appear to be life threatening."Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the main police number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477."A Mission Lane resident said she had been awake at the time of the shooting, which she said occurred in a nearby house between Mission Lane and a Band Room Lane Driveway, where people had gathered and music was playing."I heard about five shots which woke up my baby. The shots sounded slow and they were clear as day. All I know is I am wide awake now and I didn't sleep all night."She added: "This is the third time I heard shooting, but it's the first time I heard them so close."Tonight a Police spokesman said: "About 12.55am on Wednesday, February 29, police officers responded to a report of gunshots outside a private residence located on Mission Lane in Pembroke."On arrival officers ascertained that a 23-year-old male sustained a suspected gunshot wound and had been conveyed to the hospital in a private car."Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit commenced investigations and enquiries have revealed that the victim briefly exited the residence where he, and possibly another male, were targeted by an unknown gunman."The victim received a single gunshot wound to his lower back torso region, and has undergone surgery. A forensic examination of the scene has been completed and the evidence recovered will be subject to further testing in the coming days."Detectives have completed an area canvass - speaking with and recording statements from witnesses and area residents."Officers are keen to speak with anyone that can assist the enquiry team with information that will lead to bringing the offender(s) to justice."The suspect is believed to be a male wearing dark clothing that was on foot in the area of the house at the time, which is located near the junction with North Shore Road."Investigators believe that the suspect departed from the scene in a private motor car following the shooting.
