City councillor quits to stand as Alderman

Common Councillor Dennis Tucker has resigned from the Board of the City of Hamilton in order to seek election as an Alderman at a City of Hamilton election later this month.Mayor of Hamilton, Charles Gosling, who said: “Councillor Dennis Tucker met with me yesterday and presented his letter of resignation with effect Monday, March 12. He advised that he intends to seek election as an Alderman for the City in the March 29 election and therefore had to resign from his current position.“During his time on the Board, Dennis has been chaired both the Finance and Governance committees which have been at the core of our move towards open government and the accountability of members. It has also been under his stewardship, as Chairman of the Finance Committee, that the Corporation has been able to weather the economic storm of reduced revenues. His prudent fiscal guidance during these difficult economic times has allowed us to save jobs and eliminate the City’s capital project debt, as planned.“I am pleased Dennis is seeking to build upon and increase his service to the City by running for the position of Alderman. I fully support him in this endeavour.”
