Poster contest winner meets Belco bird

A budding young artist from Warwick Academy has scooped a $500 prize for her class after winning this year’s Belco Bird Kite Safety Poster Competition.Six-year-old Marli Spriggs also received a handcrafted Bermuda kite made by Belco fitter apprentice Corrie Dillas for her efforts.Her artwork was deemed to have the best kite safety message overall of 130 entries sent in by primary school year one and two students.The other winners were:l Bermuda High School:Year one: Bethany Cooze (Best Kite Safety Message) and Olivia Porter (Most Beautiful).Year two: Michelle Moon (Best Safety Message) and Lizzie Consolino (Most Beautiful).l Elliot Primary:Year two: Myeisha Sharrief (Best Safety Message).l Gilbert Institute:Year one: Nishati Smith (Best Safety Message and Most Beautiful).l Harrington Sound Primary:Year one: Amir Squire-Harvey (Good Effort).l Mount Saint Agnes Academy:Kindergarten: Marie Ortega (Best Safety Message) and Katarina Cardoso (Most Beautiful).Grade one: Analia Machado (Best Safety Message) and Lucien Penacho (Most Beautiful).l Northlands Primary:Year one: Paige Marshall (Best Safety Message) and Mitayah Richardson (Most Beautiful).Year two: Christopher Brites (Best Safety Message) and Faven Brewster (Most Beautiful).l Purvis Primary:Year two: Milae Smith (Best Safety Message) and Zaenyche Smith (Most Beautiful).l Saltus Cavendish:Year one: Cole Steinhoff (Good Effort).Year two: Will Fishton (Best Safety Message).l Somersfield Academy:Year one: Arabella Crofts (Good Effort).Year two: Nash Storey (Good Effort).l St George’s Prep:Year one: Gianni Santucci (Best Safety Message) and Matilda Rose Walsh (Most Beautiful).l Warwick Academy:Year one: Marli Spriggs (Best Safety Message Overall), Katya Williamson (Best Safety Message) and Eva O’Connor (Most Beautiful).Year two: Tessa Smith (Best Safety Message) and Sydney Frias (Most Beautiful).The art competition is part of Belco’s annual Kite Safety Campaign, which includes a Good Friday visit by the Belco bird to safe kite-flying locations.Winning posters will be displayed at www.belco.bm and in Belco’s lobby at its head office on Serpentine Road until April 13.Successful students are encouraged to stop by to pick up certificates and ribbons and view the posters from 9am to 5pm any day next week.ends
