BIU stage second protest outside KFC

A BIU member hands out flyers today asking people to boycott KFC.

The Bermuda Industrial Union mounted a protest outside Kentucky Fried Chicken for the second day in a row this morning.Yesterday, union president Chris Furbert handed out flyers outside the fast food restaurant, calling on residents to boycott it due to a dispute with management.Today, he was joined by five other members in handing out leaflets next to the Queen Street premises. They arrived shortly before 11.30am.Mr Furbert told The Royal Gazette: “For the next couple of hours we are going to be handing out flyers to the public about the situation here at KFC.“If the public has any questions they would like to ask us, we will give them the information that's needed to support the boycott.”Mr Furbert said last week that KFC management terminated a collective bargaining agreement with the union and refused a request to send the dispute to arbitration.KFC has been seeking legal advice over the matter. Director Jason Benevides said the company “remains willing to sit down with the BIU”.He described allegations made against the company in the flyers handed out by the union as defamatory. There was a steady stream of customers at the restaurant this morning, despite the protest.
